14th September 2002 The Launch of the Royal Shallop JUBILANT The Celebration of Time was an event to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and to introduce a brand new yet traditional craft to the river Thames. The new craft is to be called "Jubilant".
The Shallop, being built at Richmond, is a replica of the eighteenth century barge on display in Somerset House in central London.
Built by Mark Edwards, a traditional boat builder at Richmond upon Thames for the Thames Traditional Rowing Association the "Jubilant" is for training disabled rowers to join able-bodied rowers in events, ceremonies and regattas on the Thames.
